The Erbil Asayish (Security) Directorate announced on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, the details of the arrest of the main suspect involved in a house shooting, along with the involvement of activist and former preacher Omar Faqe in the crime and an attempted kidnapping plot.

According to the Asayish statement, the incident dates back to September 30, when a suspect riding a delivery motorcycle shot at the home of a citizen named Fatima Ibrahim in the Zanko neighborhood. Following an investigation by the Asayish crime team, the main suspect (M.A.A) was identified. He had fled outside the Kurdistan Region after the crime but was arrested upon his return.

Further investigations and CCTV footage revealed that Omar Faqe (referred to as O.M.F) assisted the shooter by pointing out the targeted house. Based on this evidence, Faqe was arrested. Asayish also noted that Faqe had incited another individual to shoot at the same house.

Regarding the motive, Asayish explained that there was a pre-existing dispute between Omar Faqe and the homeowner's son, Zrar. Previously, Zrar had shot at Faqe's real estate office. Zrar currently has an arrest warrant against him and has fled abroad.

Furthermore, Erbil Asayish revealed that in addition to the shooting case, Omar Faqe had plotted and offered money to someone to kidnap another individual. Complete evidence and confessions regarding this kidnapping plot are now in the hands of the authorities.
