As a result of a severe traffic collision on the Fermanbaran dual carriageway in Erbil, two vehicles caught fire and completely burned down, leaving two young men severely injured and hospitalized.
On Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Shakhawan Saeed, the spokesperson for Erbil Civil Defense, told Rashkaw Network: "Around 09:00 AM today, a rear-end collision occurred on the Fermanbaran dual carriageway. One of the vehicles was carrying gasoline for sale, and when the other car crashed into it from behind, it immediately caught fire. Due to the fuel, both vehicles were completely destroyed by the blaze."
The Civil Defense spokesperson added that upon receiving the report, two firefighting teams were immediately dispatched to the scene and successfully controlled the fire. However, the injured had already been transported to the hospital before the teams arrived.
Regarding the victims' health condition, Saman Salman, the media head of the Erbil General Health Directorate, explained: "Two individuals were brought to the Erbil Emergency Hospital this morning. Both are 25 years old. Unfortunately, one has suffered burns covering 32% of his body, while the other has 44% burns, and they are receiving the necessary medical treatment."
It is worth noting that car fires have been on the rise. According to Shakhawan Saeed, since the beginning of this year alone, more than 110 vehicles have caught fire and burned down due to various reasons across the Erbil province.
