The Chinese Ministry of Defense denies providing military assistance to Iran during wartime, stating that their military relations with Iraq are "friendly" and there is coordination between both sides.
On Thursday, April 30, 2026, Zhang Xiaogang, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Defense, in response to a question from Rudaw Media Network on whether his country has provided defense systems and drones to Iran, stated: "We have answered these matters several times and we are against the dissemination of false information."
Regarding the possibility of providing defense systems and drones to Iraq, the spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Defense told Rudaw, "Relations between the Chinese and Iraqi militaries are friendly, and both sides continue to exchange information and coordinate."
These remarks by the Chinese Ministry of Defense coincide with the publication of some reports in the US media indicating that Iran has received defense systems from China.
Zhang Xiaogang said: "China coordinates with friendly countries and plays a constructive role in maintaining peace and stability in the world and the region."
